June 2021 | Isolated Elderly & COVID

Dear Friend,

In all states affected byCOVID-19, the message being sent out by officials and medical experts for the past year has been “stay at home” and “isolate in place.” The isolation is especially difficult for people living in nursing homes and assisted living communities.

Most facilities have asked that no one enter the facilities unless they work there because there is a high risk that COVID-19 would spread rapidly once it is introduced.

Although prohibiting guests will decrease the risk of spreading the COVID-19 infection in nursing homes, it significantly increases the isolation and resulting loneliness.

The prevalence of severe loneliness among blind people living in care homes is even greater.  Many are having difficulty adjusting to life without eye sight and the inability to read anymore.

This is why it's so important to have the Word of God in audio form, especially during these troubling times where guests are unable to come and read the Bible to blind and visually impaired residents right now.

Mrs. Stewart, an Activities Director at a nursing home tells us, “thanks and gratitude to Aurora Ministries for blessing the residents of this retirement home with audio versions of the Bible. One lady has been so depressed recently because the little sight she had has diminished.”  Mrs. Stewart continues, “When your package came, she just lit up with the grace and love of God.”

Philippians 4:7, KJV: "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

I can only try to describe the light and happiness on their faces when they receive their packages and are told what’s inside,” says Mrs. Stewart.

Psalms 119:162, KJV: "I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil."

It's only through gifts and contributions from friends like you that we are able to keep sending “the peace of God” to those needing to hear because they are unable to read it for themselves or have someone read it to them.

Activity Directors, like Mrs. Stewart and other nursing home staff, are calling and emailing us daily to find out how we can help their facility.  It’s important we are able to help each and every one of them.

Maybe you are able to partner with us to make sure the isolated and the lonely have independent access to the Holy Scriptures.

Whatever you can share, thank you!
